School of Health and Human Sciences

The School of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) houses eight departments and over 50 concentrations and certificate programs. It’s a school with a true “culture of care.”

Students receive exceptional training for their careers through:

  • Hands-on experience in their field working in clinics, interning with community agencies, student teaching, and assisting with research projects

  • Courses designed to provide the most current, critical information taught by award-winning faculty and experts in their area of research

  • Opportunities to make a difference in the community, from working with refugee communities and helping prevent opioid-related deaths to health coaching and volunteering in local schools

  • A culture with a foundation of care and acceptance, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and a mission to enhance the quality of life of individuals, families, and communities

HHS graduates are equipped to impact and improve the human experience across the lifespan. We hope you will consider joining the HHS family!

The School of Health and Human Sciences embodies UNC Greensboro is focused on improving wellness and our community and beyond. Our students apply classroom lessons through research and service learning to gain highly sought after skills that lead to fulfilling jobs. Alumni are in successful careers that improve the well-being of individuals, families and communities, and impact the human experience. As a student in this school, you can pursue career fields like audiology and speech pathology, early childhood education, social work, athletic training, nutrition, public health advocacy, conflict resolution, and community recreation and event planning.

UNCG faculty members care deeply about giving their students experiences that make them desirable to future employers, while also contributing to research that serves local communities. This means there are plenty of opportunities here for you to do hands-on work that builds your resume and makes a real world impact. A few examples include kinesiology researchers that are using VR technology to decrease fall risk and prevent injuries and older adults. Therapeutic recreation students are partnering with the city of Greensboro to develop adaptive and inclusive recreation programs, and social work faculty and students are working with community officials in an intervention program to address and prevent opioid abuse. Our students find that being involved in research and service learning puts them on a path of success as working licensed professionals and in well regarded graduate programs.

Of course, hands-on field experience is just part of what you can expect as a student in School of Health and Human Sciences. As we train students to become leaders in fields that can have huge emotional demands, we help to build a strong sense of self. Our undergraduate students can take a class called Design Your Life, where they explore their life story, identify their values and life purpose, define their meaningful work, and develop a plan. Not only a plan for graduation, but a plan for the future. At the School of Health and Human Sciences, we dedicate our time and energy to learning because we're passionate about making our world better, safer, healthier, and more humane and just.
