School of Education

The history of the School of Education (SOE) extends back nearly 100 years as one of the first teacher preparation programs established in the state of North Carolina. Today, the SOE is a center of excellence offering over 20 outstanding undergraduate and graduate degree programs that provide a world-class learning experience for our students. Along with rigorous in-class preparation, a cornerstone of our programs is extensive experiential learning opportunities through internships, practicums, field placements, study abroad, faculty-mentored research, and student innovation projects. These opportunities prepare our students with the intellectual skills and cultural awareness to have a positive impact across the varied multicultural environments of our state and the nation.

The history of the UNCG School of Education extends back nearly 100 years as one of the first teacher preparation programs established in North Carolina. Today, the School of Education is a center of excellence, offering more than 20 outstanding undergraduate and graduate degree programs. As a student here, you can choose to study teacher education, or you can pursue other areas including special education, professions in deafness, and information science. Our graduate programs in higher education, library science, and counseling and assessment are highly ranked nationally. So what makes the School of Education's programs unique? Our commitment to equity, culture of innovation, and community involvement. When it comes to innovation, the Self Design Studio speaks for itself. This dedicated maker space gives future teachers the chance to learn and practice emerging technologies like augmented reality and 3D printing, then bring their lessons into the classroom.

Students are mentored first by expert faculty who have first hand experience in teaching. Then through a series of internships, practicums, and field placements, they partner with teachers and working classrooms, so they have the confidence to lead effectively from day one after graduation. Students who are accepted to our unique Teacher Education Fellows Program and the Hagey Academy, get additional mentorship and professional development opportunities in addition to scholarship funding. Our students and faculty believe in the concept of learning by doing as evidenced by the 250,000 hours of service provided by our students and faculty each year. Students frequently volunteer their time in the Moss Street Partnership School, a collaboration between UNCG and Rockingham County Schools. In the UNCG School of Education, you will be part of a caring, diverse, and inclusive community. You'll build strong relationships with your faculty along with your peers, while gaining a world class educational experience that prepares you for your future.
